Radio Mirchi is not playing kannada songs in kannada land.

Hi, so called hottest radio station does not play kannada songs in bangalore. This is big injustice and great insult to state language of karnataka and to the people of karnataka. This act of radio mirchi and radio city is strongly condemnable. But why the kannada groups and kannada activists are quite about this issue? What has happened to these "bhuddi jeevigalu" (intellectuals). Why "karnataka rakshana vedike" is quite? This group had painted Mr.vijay more of belgaum with black paint for his suggestion to include some talluks of belgaum to
maharastra. Friends if you feel that this act of these two radio stations is condemnable, then dont keep quite. for radio city, sms to 7007 as follows "BR I am against radio city because they dont play kannada songs". And to radio mirchi, sms to 8888 as follows "RM I am against radio
mirchi because they dont play kannada songs". you can also send them email as "I dislike radio city 91 FM attitude towards kannada and i strongly condemn this act of radio city. And i want you people to do justice to kannada by putting kannada songs at least 12 hours a day. Else a time will come people of bangalore like me will take strong steps to teach a good lessons to those who do injustice to our mother land" and send this email to bangalore@myradiocity.com. To email radio mirchi send "I dislike radio mirchi 93.3 FM attitude towards kannada and i strongly condemn this act of radio mirchi. And i want you people to do justice to kannada by putting kannada songs at least 12 hours a day. Else a time will come people of bangalore like me will take strong steps to teach a good lessons to those who do injustice to our mother land" the same to pranava.d@prpundit.com

Radiocity is playing Kannada songs. Not full day. And they do have limited songs -film hits only. You can read my blog about it here.

Dear pavanaja, thanks for your infomation. they took 5 years to know us.This act of radio stations is just eye opener to kannadigas. The outsiders just dont see bangalore as of kannadagas. To make the outside world to know that this is our home, we should support which has kannada element in it, else a big no.

radio mirchi's attitude shows a general north indians attitude. A northy thinks that there is only hindi in this world. He need not learn any other language to be in India. We should compare india to Europe where each state's language is given priority. And onemore intersting fact i found that Hindi is not basically derived from Sanskrit but from arabic. So in real sence hindi is not an indian language at all. Kannadigas need to learn that they need not take the burden of hindi to be an indian, we can be better indians being a true kannadiga in karnataka.

Hi,
People have been talking about kannada movies and kananda music. Please note that in all languages, in a year, there would be 1 or 2 mega hits and some more not so big hits. The same happens in kannada cinema too. Do you think all the hindi/english/tamil/telugu movies that get release in falsely prestigious PVR are mega hits? You dont see any movie running for more than a week.
The same is the case if you take kannada music.
Note that there is a 24 hr kannada music channel which is a big hit amongst the audiences.
So, it also make good business sense for Mirchi to dedicate air time to kannada songs. This would also help non kannadigas to know the language and music .
As many people have put it, there are bad movies and music, but there are good movies and music too!! It is the same everywhere. Not all music in all languages are hits..
So quality is there, but people don't see/hear it. Why don't they see/hear it??? it is because people dont talk abt it or air the same in radio stations.
Note that kannadigas are not against hindi or english. They are just asking some airtime for their language songs in their own land.
look what has happened to kannada in kannada home land?
I strongly condemn any channel that does not respect the local language and its people.
If the same channel can play telugu in hyderabad why not kannada in bangalore?
coming to word "cosmopolitan". I have heard many people use this word without understanding it.
being cosmopolitan does not mean that you forget your language, culture etc. It is just being tolerant towards other's language and culture, respecting the same and living amicably.
"anything other kannada is Cosmopolitan" --this is the kind of meaning people give for being cosmopolitan.
If the demand for kananda music is not met, i am sure , someday, RM would definitely face Kannadigas' music and i am looking forward to it!!!

Well..
I don't think I have enough data to think enough on this and comment on this subject.
Anyway...
So the argument is Radio stations should dedicate some time to programs in local language. I can see it's natural that people EXPECT this.
But what I don't understand is 'how Radio station are still doing well in their business (I have no clue how they measure their success :)) if they ignore the local language.

I am business man. I think business.
According to me, whoever you are complaining on is not a dumbass. He knows how to run his business. Otherwise you wouldnt see such a warm welcome from people.

Whatever your demands are, they will surely be considered when THE BUSINESS demands it!

Tell me one thing. Have you stopped listening to that station which doesnt play Kannada songs?

If yes, you have already taken a step to kick his butt. Don't worry, you will see it's results sooner or later.

If No, Do that. If you don't like a Radio station that doesnt play Kannada songs, don;t tune to it then.

I see that it's not always fair to not like a Radio Station just because he doesnt play something. There are other things that you like about that station. And those guys are playing with that!

Fortunately or unfortunately, LIFE IS NOT BINARY.
It's not always like.. You like something or you don;t like it at all.

As it happens here, you like RM but don't like the fact that they don't play Kannada songs.

Well... I stop (abort rather :) ) here.. time out..

Alpazna, Yes, i have stopped listening to it. I have put a thought upon what all you said just after few days i published this. I used Google trends to compare the statistics, what we can see is, Hindi and tamil are searched most. generally a middle class or even high class kannadiga listens to both hindi and kannada songs equally, including me. Now i am trying to look more towards kannada songs. I listen to rainbow kannada programs, and I came to know that i not only can survive but also enjoy lot more by listening "only Kannada" songs. kannada bhavageetegalu are even more enjoyable.

I am staying in hyderabad and recently radio city and mirchi started operating here. They play only in telugu, anchoring is completely in telugu. In spite of 50%+ muslim population , hindi is not played.I really fail to understand why this discrimination against kannadigas in bangalore.

As per Google trends, word telugu is most searched in Hyderabad which means telugu songs and movies are in highest demand over the internet, while in bangalore hindi and tamil are searched more than kannada this is because tamileans wherever they live contribute only to thier language, while kannadigas search for all languages kannada, hindi, tamil etc, even in interior kannada speaking areas people are searching more for hindi as per google trends, best solution to prevent this degradation would be, allowing dubbed movies which will increase kannada digital resource. then kannada movies will definitely have wider market.
